Polka Dot Mixing Bowls

Hello Friends!

I want to share with you all the amazing Fire-King polka dot bowls I acquired from trolling the Kijiji post boards. It's semi-embarrassing to say that I check the boards multiple times a day. But, one never knows what people will be getting rid of at a totally and completely reasonable price.

I am completely enamoured with the Fire-King brand. They were a brand within Anchor-Hocking, introduced in the 1940s. Originally the Fire-King dishes were very affordable often coming in bags of flour or sold at grocery stores and gas stations. To read more about Fire-King and their line of dish ware go here.

So, the story of the bowls. They were posted on Kijiji for probably about one hour before I saw them. This particular seller had the bowls listed for $20, and a vintage Federal Glass bar set also for $20. Amazingly, I asked the seller if I could snag both the bowls and the bar set for a combined $30 - she agreed! I was as pleased as punch.

The Fire-King bowls were in impeccable condition. The coloured dots had very little to no wear and tear. The bowls are so playful, I love the way Fire-King dishes were made. My current favourites are this gazelle mixing bowl and the more traditional tulip bowl.

I have a dream I'll come across a garage sale or antique market booth that is overstocked with reasonable priced Fire-King wares. I am aware that it's a tall order!

Happy scavenging!
