Fondue Party Time

Wednesday, 20 June 2012

Hello Friends,

It's time for a fondue party! Over the last little while my thrifting has included finding retro fodue pots to add to my collection. Though I have never had a fondue party, it's starting to look very appetizing, and even more so when serving the dip in cute little pots.

I did a little research on fondue and fondue parties. You can read the full Wikipedia article, but I'll try to paraphrase. Fondue emerged in France and Switzerland as a full meal consisting of melted chesses. The earliest recipe was found from a published book in Zurich in the late 1600s, the main ingredients being cheese, wine and spices.

The traditions that surround fondue is quite interesting. If a man loses his food to the pot, he must buy a round of drinks for the party; if a woman loses her morsel she must kiss her fondue neighbour. I thought that was quite cute!

I was lucky enough to find all three of my fondue pots at local thrift stores for very low prices. Sadly the two green pots did not come with lids, but I could not deny myself after seeing the wonderful colours.

I know I don't need any more fondue pots, but I'm totally swooning over these Catherineholm and Dansk pots. If I get those two, I'll definitely have to have a fondue gathering with cheese, chocolate and all the fix-ins!

Happy scavenging!
