Federal Glass Goodies

Hello Friends!

It's time to have a chat about Federal Glass. The company began in the early 1900s, mostly with the manufacture of kitchen dishes. The early manufacturing process was completed by hand, with much of the filing completed by skilled workers. After world war I and world war II, the process became automated. Federal Glass supplying hospitals, military and restaurants.

Unfortunately, the glassware dwindled in public favour after plastics became popular during the 1960s. In the late 1970s the manufacturing plant was closed after attempts to revitalize the glass line.

The markings on Federal Glass pieces include a capital "F" inside a shield.

My Federal Glass collection is limited to mixing bowl set with a brown sunflower pattern gracing the sides of the bowl. I found the set at a community garage sale that was a hot-bed of vintage finds. The bowls are in amazing condition with no chips, and only a small black on one of the flowers.

I absolutely love this dish and cup set and the circus mixing bowl set. Sadly the circus bowls are very expensive and way out of my price range. Here's hoping I find them out thrifting! Keep your fingers crossed.

Happy scavenging!
