Merry Mushrooms

Hello Friends!

So, mushrooms and kitchen canisters. Two things I totally and completely adore. When they're put together I immediately fall in love. I was over the moon when I recently found a Kijiji add in my local area for two mushroom canisters. I jumped at the chance to pick them up.

When I went to the woman's house to buy the canisters she referred to them as "Smurf homes". I told her that I loved the canisters and that I'm a collector of vintage and retro housewares. I think when she heard that, she knew they were going to a good home. At the time I was unaware where the canisters were from and who the manufacturer was, but I did a bit of research using the makers mark on the bottom of the ceramics.

Turns out the canisters are Canadian, made by a company called Laurentian Pottery. Most of the pieces from the pottery group are very traditional. According to some Googling, they began operation in the late 1930s, manufacturing bowls, mugs and other kitchen wares. It wasn't until the 1960s when they released their Merry Mushroom line. This line included the canisters, which I am proud to own, bowls, mugs, sugar and creamer sets, and teapots with the same mushroom print. I especially love the teapot, but realistically I know I do not need another teapot!

Happy scavenging!
