Melmac Mania!

Hello Friends!

Today I'd like to show off my amazing little collection of Melmac dinnerware. But first, a little history.

Melmac dishes came into popularity in the 1940s when melamine resin became an inexpensive alternative to ceramics. The dishes were primary used for the military but became popular in society when designers began incorporating new colours and motifs to the dishes.

They were used in households across America, though the dishes were prone to scratching and discolouration, which eventually led to the disuse of the dishes. The dishes were also not able to go into the microwave and other heat sources. You can access this great link for more Melmac history.

I love the look of the mint Melmac dishes, and this vintage Melmac advertisement featuring famous patterns would go so well in a kitchen.

I bought my Melmac from a local seller on Kijiji. I was so happy when she threw in the creamer and sugar with the cups and saucers. I loved the bright green of the dishes, they remind me of summer dishes I would use on my patio.

I think I'm going to have to host a tea party in the very near future!

Happy scavenging!
