Hello Friends!
I don't have a nesting doll collection, in fact, I'm pretty sure it would be a disaster to add another collection to my overflowing home. Nevertheless I purchased my first set of nesting dolls from a garage sale a couple of weekends ago.
The woman that I purchased the dolls from bought them in Germany over 20 years ago. I love the history of the set, and knowing that she kept them for so many years makes it even more special.
Nesting dolls were first carved in the late 1800s in Russia. Traditionally the outer woman was clothed in long shapeless dress. The inner dolls were either men or women, the last and smallest doll is usually a baby. For more information on these wonderful dolls go here.
There are the less traditional nesting dolls out there. Some of my favourites include this animal set and the beautifully painted Van Gogh nesting doll set. I keep telling myself that I'm not allowed to buy them!
I also love the nesting doll embroidery pattern, I think I'm going to have try out something similar.
Happy scavenging!
